Brockhaus Funeral Home in Spencer is in charge of arrangements. Raymond died Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at home with his family by his side. Raymond G. Engelhaupt (Babe), son of Raymond M. and Lucille (Janssen) Engelhaupt, was born February 29, 1940, at O'Neill, Nebraska. Ray was raised on the family farm north of Spencer. At the age of 16, Ray moved to Wyoming where he worked as a security guard at Yellowstone National Park. He later moved back home and worked construction driving heavy equipment. In 1959, Ray married the love of his life, Agnes Schmitz of Bonesteel, South Dakota. He was working as a farm hand at Fairfax, South Dakota, when he purchased his own farm in 1962. Ray enjoyed farming, and raising cattle and hogs. Ray also enjoyed fishing, especially ice fishing, hunting, playing cards, dominos, and going to the casino. He enjoyed being with his family on the holidays, the camping trips, and the catfish feeds. He especially loved being around the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Raymond is survived by his loving wife, Agnes of Spencer, Nebraska; four children, Kim (Sandy) Engelhaupt of Yankton, South Dakota, Bill (Carrie) Engelhaupt of Spencer, Cindy (Kyle) Tarr of Plainview, Nebraska, and Mark (Noreen) Engelhaupt of Spencer; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond M. and Lucille; two sisters, Darlene Donlin and Karen DeWild; father and mother-in-law, John T. and Helen Schmitz.
