Description	:	Raymond H. Grossnicklaus, 94, of Shelby, passed away Monday, November 19, 2012, at Bryan LGH West Hospital in Lincoln. Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 23, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Shelby Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Shelby, with Father John Rooney officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, November 22, 2012, from 5-7 p.m. at the church with a 7 p.m. rosary following. Interment will be in Shelby Cemetery. Dubas Funeral Home, of Osceola and Stromburg, has been entrusted with arrangements. Ray was born April 5, 1918 in rural Osceola, to Henry and Mabel (Born) Grossnicklaus. He attended country school north of Shelby and graduated from Shelby High School in 1935. He then began working at the Osceola Courthouse in the ASCS office for 10 years and also farmed. He then served in the United States Army from August 4, 1941 to January 13, 1946. After returning from the service he continued farming and also worked at Shelby Lumber where he was employed from 1956 until retiring in 2002. On September 10, 1946, he was united in marriage to Leona Alta Fillinger at Shelby Sacred Heart Catholic Church. To this union eight children were born. In 2008, Ray moved to Crown Villa apartments in Columbus where he resided until his passing. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby, Shelby Council of Knights of Columbus and Shelby Legion Post #296. Survivors include his wife, Leona, of Shelby; children, Lee (Charlene) Grossnicklaus, of Shelby, Tim (Jan) Grossbicklaus, of Gresham, Gene, (Snookie) Grossnicklaus, of Marysville, La., Van Grossnicklaus and special fried, Diane Huston, of Theodosia, Mo., Susan (Harlan) Schrock. of Friend, Ann (Mike Landerfield, of Eagle, Allan (Kimberly)Grossnicklaus, of Elgin, and Jane (Bill) Straube, of Blair; 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mabel; two sisters, Mae and husband, Roy Berggren, and Mill and husband, Doug Behrs; and one grandson Wyatt Grossnicklaus. from the Columbus Telegram newspaper, Columbus, Platte County Nebraska, November 21, 2012.
