Description	:	Raymond Herman 'Ray' Marquardt, age 87, formerly of Oakville, Iowa, died Tuesday afternoon, September 13, 2011, at the Parkview Manor in Wellman. The son of Arlo and Pearl Stemler Marquardt, he was born on April 19, 1924, at Elkton, Minnesota. He married Merlene June 'Dolly' Zippe on October 3, 1942 at Kahoka, Missouri. She preceded him in death on December 27, 2009. Raymond served in the US Army during WW II in the 10th Mountain Division in the Italian Campaign. Read More	Raymond Herman 'Ray' Marquardt, age 87, formerly of Oakville, Iowa, died Tuesday afternoon, September 13, 2011, at the Parkview Manor in Wellman. The son of Arlo and Pearl Stemler Marquardt, he was born on April 19, 1924, at Elkton, Minnesota. He married Merlene June 'Dolly' Zippe on October 3, 1942 at Kahoka, Missouri. She preceded him in death on December 27, 2009. Raymond served in the US Army during WW II in the 10th Mountain Division in the Italian Campaign. He worked in concrete construction having poured the curbs and gutters in Oakville in 1955. He was a co-owner and operator with M and M Concrete. He also owned and operated with his wife, Dolly & Ray's Tap in Oakville for several years. Raymond was a charter member and past Commander of the American Legion Post 489 in Oakville. He was also a member of the VFW Glenn Allen Post 5166 of Wapello, the United Methodist Church in Oakville, and a lifetime member of the Concrete Masons Union. He had served as Mayor of Oakville and also as the Justice of the Peace in Oakville. He was a founding member of the Indian Hills Golf and Country Club of Wapello. Raymond enjoyed fishing off the bridge at Oakville, golfing, mushrooming, and hunting. He and Dolly had enjoyed several winters in Arizona and Texas. His family surviving includes two sons, Doug Marquardt of Oakville and Gary & Beverley Marquardt of Wapello; a special niece, Becky Stephens of Burlington; four grandchildren, Brandon & Lynne Marquardt, Jeremy Marquardt, Joscelyn Stephens, and Kaitlyn Stephens. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlo Marquardt and Pearl White; his stepfather, 'Doc' White; his wife, Merlene 'Dolly'; and a granddaughter, Cassandra.
