Description	:	Raymond Isaac Newendorp was born on December 5, 1922, on a farm near Leighton, Iowa. He was an only son and the oldest of three children that were born to Harry L. and Harriet Van Zee Newendorp. Ray attended the Meade No. 7 Country Grade School near his home. Read More	Raymond Isaac Newendorp was born on December 5, 1922, on a farm near Leighton, Iowa. He was an only son and the oldest of three children that were born to Harry L. and Harriet Van Zee Newendorp. Ray attended the Meade No. 7 Country Grade School near his home. As a young lad, Ray worked as a farm hand with his father until he was inducted into the U. S. Navy on 17 March 1945. He served his country during World War II and was honorably discharged a Seaman First Class on 20 July 1946. On August 15, 1946, he was united in marriage with Clara Ruth Roorda at the home of her parents, Wiggert A. and Reino Borgman Roorda, at Pella, Iowa. To this union four sons were born: Robert Dale, Keith Edwin, Bruce Craig and Ronald Gene. Ray farmed his entire working life. He retired in 1987 after farming for 50 years. During this time he had served on the board of the Farmer's Cooperative Exchange, as a 4-H leader and Black Oak Township Clerk. Ray was commander of the Van Veen- Van Hemert American Legion Post No. 89 of Pella in 1988 and 1989 and served on the building board of the legion. During his retirement years he really enjoyed taking trips with his wife, Clara and enjoyed watching sports. On Friday afternoon, June 29, 2007, he passed away at the Griffin Nursing Center in Knoxville, Iowa at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 24 days. Ray is survived by his wife for over 60 years, Clara R. Newendorp; their four sons and their wives, Bob and Cindy (Wanders) Newendorp of Pella, Keith and Cheryl (Vander Plaats) Newendorp of Pella, Bruce and Jan (Hauber) Newendorp of Cedar Falls andRon Newendorp of Pella 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchilden. Ray leaves his two sisters and their husbands: Freda and Alvin Goemaat of Leighton; Elva and Donald Roorda of Pella; and the following sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Eva Mae (Paul) Roorda; R. Walter and Wilma Roorda; Erma (Adrian) De Haan all of Pella; and Carl Roorda of Rock Falls, Illinois. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Harriet Newendorp; his parents-in-law, W. A. and Reino Roorda; and two brothers-in-law: Paul Roorda and Adrian De Haan. Ray was baptized at the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Leighton. He made profession of his faith at the First Reformed Church in Pella where he had met his wife to be and remained a faithful member the remainder of his life. He had served as Sunday School Superintendent, served on the Consistory and had gone on several mission work trips.
