He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar L. Collier, and his "big" sister Shirley Talley. Bo was a lifelong resident of Hampton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar L. Collier, and his "big" sister Shirley Talley. Bo was a lifelong resident of Hampton. He was employed with the Newport News Shipyard in the steel fabrication department for nearly 20 years before an accident left him unable to work. Bo lived each day of his life for his family, nothing was more important to him. He taught us what family means by the way he lived his life. The first love of his live was his wife Ann; they had married as teenagers and loved each other faithfully through the years. When the twinkle in his eye became the reality of his daughter Sherry, she instantly became a "daddy's girl." From the beginning they had a very special relationship. In latter years Bo enjoyed helping Sherry and his granddaughter Cassie at the wood pile in Poquoson cutting wood and selling it by the truckload. Bo was always there for his daughter and when he could no longer do the everyday things that he longed to do Sherry took care of her Daddy and was there for him every day. The love they shared will never fade. Within a few years Bo's son, Raymond Collier Jr. was born to a proud Mom and Dad. Bo loved his son with all his heart and soul. He stood by Raymond through good times and bad times. They shared as father and son the same good nature and sense of humor. Bo was so grateful that he lived long enough to see his only son settle down and do well. Bo was "Papa" to his granddaughter Cassie. He treasured this child every day of his life and found so much joy in her. Her "Papa" was the most important man in her life. They were often teased by Maw Maw and Mom that "Papa" made sure Cassie knew he was her private bank. Bo was never more proud of anyone than his "Cookie." He enjoyed attending her gym meets and cheerleading events. The bond between "Papa" and Cassie could only be dreamed of by most of us. Bo always enjoyed his many nieces and nephews; he loved to tease them, make them laugh, take them to the store and buy them candy and on many occasions filled in as Dad and Grandpa. Bo had many friends that he loved, especially his buddy Ralph. He enjoyed hanging out at the Bait and Tackle Shop visiting with his friends. Bo was always helping people that were less fortunate. He never met a stranger. He touched countless lives with his love and selfless giving of himself and his resources. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Ann Collier; his daughter, Sherry Collier of Hampton and her fiance, Olen Evans; his son, Raymond J. Collier Jr. of Gloucester and his fiancee, Jennifer Peck; his two granddaughters, Cassie Cook of Hampton and Molly Ridgeway of Knoxville, Tenn.; one brother, Edgar L. Collier of Poquoson and his wife, Lois; two sisters, Sandra Kochersperger of Hampton and her husband, Jesse, and Mary Acol of Hampton and her husband, Phil; and a host of family and friends who loved him dearly. A graveside service be will conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Hampton Memorial Gardens. At Bo's request please dress casually. The family received friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Peninsula Food Bank. Arrangements are under the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton. Published in Daily Press on February 24, 2004.
