Description	:	Raymond Joseph Earl Stites born December 13, 1932 in Okmulgee, OK passed away on May 16, 2014 peacefully at his home in Hanford, CA surrounded by family at the age of 81. Raymond was married to Betty Jo Dowdy Stites for over 57 years prior to her death in 2009. They were best friends and shared a life of love that left Raymond devastated after her death. Read More	Raymond Joseph Earl Stites born December 13, 1932 in Okmulgee, OK passed away on May 16, 2014 peacefully at his home in Hanford, CA surrounded by family at the age of 81. Raymond was married to Betty Jo Dowdy Stites for over 57 years prior to her death in 2009. They were best friends and shared a life of love that left Raymond devastated after her death. We believe they are together again. They were strong believers in the power of family and surrounded themselves with their large families on both sides. They are survived by their children, Paula and Raymond (Joe) Jr. (Jennifer) living in California, Randal (Mary) living in Maryland and Sally and David living in Arizona. During the last 5 years of Raymond's life he was lovingly cared for by his daughter Paula and her son Ernest who lived with him. He was fortunate to have his granddaughter Betty, her husband Mike, and their children Ashlyn, Krista and Anastyn living close by providing additional companionship. He was also visited and greatly loved by his many grandchildren living in other cities - Natalie, Chelsea, Amber and Corey from California; Robert, Ryan, Renee and Rachel from Maryland; Kelly, Jonathan, Logan, Julianna and Sara from Arizona. Along with his great grandchildren Nicolette, Elijah, Violet, Jayden, Kody, Dylan, Samuel and Caleb. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents Leonard Robert Stites and Jeffie Jo Donaghe, and brothers Leonard Jr., Jack, Bobby, and Roy along with his sister Barbara. When Raymond was a young boy, his family relocated from Oklahoma to the Hanford area where he lived for the majority of his life except for brief periods when his employer Safeway transferred him to San Leandro, CA; Bellevue, WA; Tempe, AZ and Landover, MD. Raymond was very bright and motivated to succeed in life through education, hard work and community service. He graduated from Hanford High (1950), College of Sequoias (1952) and received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology from Fresno State College (1957). He started working for Safeway during college and quickly moved into management positions through out the country. He was very proud of his excellent safety and audit achievements along with his selection as the Top Milk Plant Manager. He retired from Safeway after more than 40 years of outstanding service. His community service included leadership roles in Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Elks, Board of Directors for Employment Development. He supported local youth by serving as the adviser for Hanford FFA Milk Judging Team and was excited to lead them to national finals. Raymond was very patriotic serving as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he received the Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, UN Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. Raymond loved hunting, bowling, golf, boating and camping earlier in his life but he was best known for being an avid fisherman frequently braving dangerous waters in small boats returning with many fish. There will be no viewing. His family celebrated his life with a picnic on May 25. In June, 2014 he and his wife Betty will be interred in the wall at Grangeville Cemetery in Armona with a military service open to the public. Details will be announced later.
