Visitation and viewing will begin at 12 noon on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1997 at Chaney-Walters Funeral Home Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997 at the Chaney Walters Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Riverside Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Raymond McClanahan Memorial Fund. Mr. McClanahan was born Jan. 10,1918 in Sterling to Fred J.and Lura (Blake)McClanahan. Mr. McClanahan farmed for six years before marrying Harriet Sorch on Feb. 14, 1941 in Sidney, Neb.. He entered the service and served in the United States Army. After his discharge he worked for the City of Sterling for 35 years, serving as Superintendent of Streets for 20 years. He is survived by his wife Hattie McClanahan of Sterling; four sons, Marc McClanahan and wife Joyce of Torrington, Wyo.; James McClanahan and wife Marlene of Sterling; David McClanahan and wife Beverly of LaPorte, Cob.; Michael McClanahan of Sterling; brother, Fred McClanahan and wife Dorothy of Ft. Collins; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Stephen.
