Raymond started to school in Greenfield but in 1939 he moved with his father to Des Moines where he finished grade and high school graduating from Des Moines Tech with the class of 1950. October 4, 1950 he enlisted with the U.S. Marines and after six months training in the States arrived in Korea about April 1, 1951. He was a member of machine gun... Read More	Adair County Free Press, October 1951 Raymond Lloyd Hepler, son of Wm. And Ellen Hepler was born in Fontanelle, Iowa, March 2, 1932 and passed away in Korea, Oct. 6, 1951. Raymond started to school in Greenfield but in 1939 he moved with his father to Des Moines where he finished grade and high school graduating from Des Moines Tech with the class of 1950. October 4, 1950 he enlisted with the U.S. Marines and after six months training in the States arrived in Korea about April 1, 1951. He was a member of machine gun squad of Company D, First Marine. Raymond was killed in action October 6, 1951. Raymond had learned the meat cutters trade and before entering the service of his country he was employed as a meat cutter in the Lily Market in Des Moines. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph who died in infancy and his mother who passed away February 25, 1937. Raymond is survived by his father, William and his step-mother, Opal of Des Moines; a brother, Robert, U.S. Navy; a sister, Doris of California, his grandparents, Wm. Hepler, Fontanelle; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Warren of Corning; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Lohafer of Des Moines; several uncles and cousins.
