Description	:	Mr. Raymond Lynwood (Ray) Luhn, 88, of Damascus, MD, died Sunday, March 8, 2015, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. He was the husband of Martha A. Luhn, his beloved wife of 53 years. Ray was born June 5, 1926, in Dickerson, MD, the son of the late Lawrence W. and Clara Poole Luhn. Read More	Mr. Raymond Lynwood (Ray) Luhn, 88, of Damascus, MD, died Sunday, March 8, 2015, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. He was the husband of Martha A. Luhn, his beloved wife of 53 years. Ray was born June 5, 1926, in Dickerson, MD, the son of the late Lawrence W. and Clara Poole Luhn. His family moved to Damascus when he was one, and he graduated from Damascus High School in June 1944. Shortly thereafter he began his military service in the U. S. Army; first in World War II (Battle of the Bulge) and a few years later in the Korean Conflict. During this time, he earned many military medals. Ray was very proud of his service to his country. After his military service, he became a bricklayer until 1960 when he partnered with Thomas Bellison to open Tom & Ray's Restaurant in Damascus which he owned until 1978. He then became a hardware salesman/paint specialist for Boyer & Cramer's Inc. until their closing in 1999. He finished his career at Hyatt Building Supply Co., Inc., retiring in 2014. Ray was an Honorary Life Member of Damascus American Legion Post 171, to which he has belonged for over 50 years, and where he served as Bingo Chairman for many years as well as participating in and supporting the numerous activities and functions of the Legion. He especially liked attending the Memorial Day and Veterans Day Programs. In addition, he was a charter member of VFW Post 10076 in Mt. Airy, MD, which was formed in 1967, and a former member of the Damascus Travel Club with which he and his wife travelled to the National Parks, California, Texas, South Carolina, and other locations with their many close friends. Ray had a very friendly and outgoing personality to which people were drawn, so anyone who met him liked him and remembered him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and his family adored him. He was a great supporter of their activities, especially sports. They always knew how special their lives were to him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters: June Pearce (Alvin) of Mt. Airy, MD, Carole McAlister (Dickie) of Gaithersburg, MD, Paulette Cramer (George) of Damascus, MD, and Patti Haegele (Rick) of Mt. Airy, MD. Nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and his sister-in-law, Mary E. Doody, and many nieces and nephews. He will be especially missed by his friend Charlie cat. He was preceded in death by his only brother, Lawrence W. Luhn. Visitation will be at Molesworth-Williams P. A. Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Rd. Damascus, MD, 20872 on Thursday, March 12th, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. where the Damascus American Legion Post 171 will hold a service at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Damascus American Legion Post 171, 10201 Lewis Drive, Damascus, MD, at 11a.m. on Friday, March 13th, and interment will be in the Damascus Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Green, Dale Browning, and Ray's grandsons: Todd Pearce, Rick McAlister, George A. Cramer, and Blake Haegele. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Mullinix, George Bolling, Bernard L. Moxley, Sr. and Robert Bellison. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Raymond L. Luhn and sent to Damascus American Legion Post 171, Baseball Program, P.O. Box 171, Damascus, MD 20872.
