Description	:	Raymond Preston Daugherty, Sr., 98, of Mathias, WV died February 17, 2016 at his residence. He was born November 25, 1917 in Landgraff, WV, and was a son of the late Grover Cleveland and Cora Lee Williams Daugherty. On September 3, 1938 he married the former Lacey Lane Jenkins, who preceded him in death July 18, 2000. Raymond graduated from Welch, WV High School in 1934, and served in the U.S. Army. He was born November 25, 1917 in Landgraff, WV, and was a son of the late Grover Cleveland and Cora Lee Williams Daugherty. On September 3, 1938 he married the former Lacey Lane Jenkins, who preceded him in death July 18, 2000. Raymond graduated from Welch, WV High School in 1934, and served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Jenkins Chapel United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, and Financial and Hardy Charge Secretary. He was a past member of Mathias Ruritan Club, and Mathias School PTA. He was a loyal fan of the WVU Mountaineers. He served 5 years in Civilian Conservation Corps at Camp Hardy, during building of Lost River State Park. He served as Company Clerk, Senior Leader and Technical Service Clerk in the Department of Interior Park Office. He was employed 5 years at Naval Supply Depot, Naval Operating Base, Norfolk, VA as Clerk Typist and Traffic Clerk. He worked for Rockingham Poultry Marketing Cooperative, Broadway, VA as Comptroller and Office Manager for 35 years, retiring January 31, 1981. After retirement Raymond published four books: “Tall Tales But True,” “Blunders And Blessings – 84 Years of Memories, “and “The CCC And Me.” He maintained membership in the Lost River Artisans Craft Cooperative, the CCC Legacy and Museum at Camp Edinburg, VA, and the CCC West Virginia Museum at Quiet Dell, WV. He was inducted into the WV CCC Hall of Fame April 26, 2014. Surviving are four daughters, Carolyn Combs and husband Arnold of Mathias, WV, Catherine Willingham and husband Paul of Mathias, Connie Wood and husband John Allen of Mathias, Ramona Daugherty of Woodstock; one son, Raymond Daugherty, Jr. and wife Pat of Myersville, MD; granddaughters, Kelly Moran, Angela Tavares, Tiffany Munn, and Sherri Neilson; great granddaughter, Danielle Funkhouser; great grandsons, Curtis Moran, Brent Moran, and Gabriel Munn; one sister, Marjorie Toole of Norfolk. He was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph and Robert Daugherty; and three infant siblings. Revs. Kelly Simmons and Joel Thornton will conduct a funeral service 2:00 PM Sunday at Jenkins Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Jenkins Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM Saturday at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.
