Description	:	Raymond Gassmann, age 63, of Valley City died Saturday at his Valley City residence. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Valley City with Msgr Dennis Skonseng celebrant. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 PM Tuesday at the Lerud-Schuldt Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 6:30 PM and a Prayer Service beginning at 7 PM. Raymond Robert Gassmann was born Nov. 13, 1947 at Valley City, ND the son of Robert and Leona (Myers) Gassmann. He grew up at Valley City where attended St. Catherine's School and later Valley City State University. He did post graduate studies at North Dakota State University and then taught school at various places in North Dakota. He left teaching and worked for the Barnes County Sheriff's Dept for several years. On Dec. 16, 1983 he was married to Sandra "Peppel" Minnie and the couple made their home in Fargo. In 1992 due to health reasons Ray and Sandy moved to Valley City. In his earlier years Ray was active in the Boy Scouts and became an Eagle Scout. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and an active member of Cursillo. Before his illness Ray enjoyed hunting and fishing and would refurbish government auction vehicles for resale. Another pastime Ray enjoyed was going for bicycle rides with Sandy and the family. Ray is survived by his wife Sandy, his children: Lisa and Kurt Gassmann both in MT, Kari (Mike) Schlenvogt and Kristal (Mark) Skramstad both of Valley City, ND, Kevin (Tracie Ritz) Gassmann, Linton, ND, and Robert (Vanna) Gassmann, Clarksville, TN; 12 grandchildren, a brother Tim Gassmann, Fargo, ND; and a sister Elizabeth Gassmann, Jamestown, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents.
