Raymond was born Aug. 28, 1926 in Granville County, N.C., to the late George Washington and Lola Buchanan Yancey. After serving his country in U.S. Army during World War II, Raymond went to work with the Virginia Department of Transportation. He retired from there after 40 years of service.
