Bridgeport is in Jackson County, Iowa, and I find no indication that the family lived there in 1914, although it is possible that Raymond was born somewhere other than the town they lived in. In the 1925 Census for Monroe County, Iowa, Raymond's birthplace was shown as Eddyville, Iowa. If Raymond was born in Eddyville, I am uncertain which county he was born in. The town of Eddyville lies in three counties: Monroe, Mahaska, and Wapello. In the 1910 Census, Raymond's parents were living in Wapello County. In 1920, Raymond was five-years-old and was living with his parents in Monroe County, Iowa, and he was still in Monroe County with his parents in 1925 and 1930. The obituary for Raymond's father, William, stated that William lived in Monroe County for most of his life and had worked in many Monroe County mines. ----------------------------------------- Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” July 10, 1986: Raymond W. Aubrey, 71, of 1617 W. Main died at 12:30 p.m. July 9, 1986, at his home. He was born Aug. 10, 1914, in Bridgeport to William and Rosa Chisman Aubrey. A resident of Ottumwa since 1931, he was an employee of the Ottumwa Water Works, retiring in 1977. In his earlier years, he was in the coal mining industry. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He married Margaret E. Carruthers Elsensohn on Sept. 5, 1946. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Edward of Center Point and Paul of Iowa City; two daughters, Cecilia DeKraii of Ottumwa and Luella Aubrey of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Kale of Des Moines, Frances Kitterman of Moravia and Florence Martin of Lovilia; and a brother, Forrest of Ottumwa. The funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Rev. Paul Donahue officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be at 8 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home. Funeral Notice From “Ottumwa Courier,” July 11, 1986: A funeral mass for Raymond W. Aubrey 71, of 1617 W. Pallbearers will be Gale Aubrey, Francis Carruthers, John Carruthers, David Farnsworth, Jim Kale and Joe Waddle. Christian wake services will be 8 p.m. on Friday at the Reece Funeral Home. Aubrey also was survived by three half-sisters, Louise Bricker of Kirkville, and Linda Smallwood and Clarice Rolison, both of Ottumwa.
