He was the son of the late Lonnie Lester Whitley and Lizzie Hathcock Whitley. He was retired textile employee and of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by his first wife Chloe Smith Whitley and later his second wife Doris Bost Whitley. He is also preceded in death by one grandson, Kyle Allen Eudy. Survivors include one son Perry R. Whitley of Oakboro, N.C. 3 daughters, Tammy Whitley Howard and husband Benny of Oakboro, NC; Cindi Whitley Huneycutt and husband Jeff of Albemarle, NC; and Rhonda Whitley Simpson of Oakboro, NC; 1 brother Lonnie Elwood Whitley of New London, NC; 1 sister Helen Burleson of Albemarle, NC; 10 grandchildren Jenny Hatley and Stephanie Treece both of Albemarle, NC; Samantha Whitley of Salisbury, NC; Candace Sutton of Wilmington, NC; Dustin Howard of Dover, Delaware; Michelle Huneycutt of Locust, NC; Andrea Huneycutt of Monroe, NC; Daniel Huneycutt of Albemarle, NC; Carmen Hatley and Jarred Simpson of Oakboro, NC. 2 great-grandchildren Lily Sutton and Layla Sutton. The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM prior to the hour of service. Memorials can be made to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. 1st Street, Albemarle, NC. 28001.
