Orchard of this city, were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Huffman funeral home in Scranton by the Rev. Anna Alberry, pastor of the Friends church in Kendrick township. Burial was in the Dilavou cemetery. Mrs. Orchard died Monday morning at the Soldiers Home in Marshalltown from complications following a fall two weeks ago when she broke a hip. Rebecca A. Auld was born in Harrison county, Ohio, Sept. 16, 1847 and died at the Soldiers Home in Marshalltown, Iowa, Dec. 10, 1934, age 87 years, 2 months, and 24 days. She came with her parents to Franklin county, Iowa, in 1864, where she was married to William E. Conway the following year. In 1867 she came with her husband to Greene county, Iowa, and settled on a farm in Kendrick township. To them were born five children: Worlln F., James L., and Edda, all of whom died in infancy, William J. who died Jan. 9, 1920, and Mary J., who still survives. The father and husband died Sept. 13, 1876. She was again married to Gideon Orchard Oct. 26, 1878, and two more children were added to the family circle: Silas G and Jesse A. She also raised a nephew, Frank Elmer Auld. She was one of Greene County's pioneers and lived to witness its developments through part of two centuries from the ox team to the air plane, bearing her share of the years, dying in a good old age. She united with the Baptist church when she was a young woman and has been attending the divine service at the Soldiers Home since taking up her residence there. She is survived by three children, Mary J. Caywood of Ralston, Silas G. Orchard of Prlmghar, Iowa, and Jess A. Orchard of Jefferson, Iowa; also a brother, Tom Auld of Lake City, la., and one sister, Mrs. N. E. Hare of Meodesha, Kansas, the only two remaining members of a family of twelve children, 19 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She fell and broke her hip a few weeks ago after which other complications set In. Her going was like quietly falling asleep to awaken in some far clime not seen by mortal eye. The son, Silas of Primgar and F.E. Auld from Denison, Mrs. LaVinna Connway and three children of Boone and Mrs. Peters also of Boone attended the funeral.
