Read More	From the March 9, 1922 Skidmore News, page 1: "Mrs. Rebecca Skidmore Died Saturday Night Widow of Marteny Skidmore, Founder of Town, Passed Away at Age of 85 Years Mrs. Rebecca A. Skidmore passed away at her home here Saturday night, at the age of 85 years, 3 months and 18 days. Mrs. Skidmore was the second wife of the late Marteny Skidmore, who founded the town of Skidmore in 1880. She had been in failing health for more than a year, due to the infirmities of age. Rebecca Ann Adams was born in New Jersey, November 16, 1836. In 1842, she moved with her parents to Cincinnati, Ohio. Here she was reared and married to Marteny Skidmore on June 30, 1858. In 1864 she came with her husband to Nodaway county, Missouri, and they purchased seven hundred acres of land in what is now Monroe Township. To the union six children were born. All have passed to their reward but Mrs. Ella Sewell. Mr. Skidmore passed away on October 10th, 1891, in the St. Joseph Hospital. Mrs. Skidmore passed from this life to her home beyond on March 4th, 1922, aged 85 years, 3 months and 18 days. After her husband laid down his yoke, she gladly took it up. Advancing the interests of the community, materially, educationally, morally. She looked after the interests of the orphans and needy, always lending a helping hand. She was a member of the Women's Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal church, Skidmore, Mo. She leaves to mourn her loss her daughter, Mrs. Ella Sewell, her son, ___ J. Skidmore, two grandsons, ___ William Sewell and Junior Skidmore, two granddaughters, Leona and Eleanor Sewell, a son-in-law, M. _____well, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. ___ret Skidmore, and a sister, Mrs. ___ Beach, who was 83 years old Saturday, and a foster-son, Louis ___more, of Lincoln, Nebr. She also leaves a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the home Monday at 2:30 p.m., conducted by the Rev. C. E. Olson. Burial was in the Masonic cemetery."
