Read More	OAKLAND — Rebecca Ann (Lohr) Lowe, 90, of Oakland, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2021, at Oakland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Oakland. Born Oct. 17, 1931, in Swanton, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Peter and Sarah Blanche (Schmidt) Lohr. In 1955, Beckie began her career in the Garrett County School District as an elementary teacher for the second grade. She also married in 1955. This new journey would take Beckie to Wilmington, Del. There she began in a Wilmington School District as an elementary teacher. Sculpting her professional career, she was a reading supervisor for grades K through 12, an elementary teacher grade chairman, a reading coordinator, the Title I Project Supervisor, a reading supervisor, the Director of Curriculum, an administrative assistant and then reached the ultimate goal of Superintendent of Newcastle County Schools. After a 34 year career in education and administration, she retired on Nov. 1, 1989. For a number of years Beckie owned and operated a Floral business in North East, servicing the nearby area's florist needs. In 2014, Beckie returned to her roots and moved back home to Garrett County in Oakland. She enjoyed her retirement by gardening and savoring nature around her everywhere. Another accomplishment she added to her repertoire in 2017 was that she acquired a Master Gardener Certification through the University of Maryland Extension (UME) of Garrett County and Natural Resources of the University of Maryland, College Park, and the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore. She is survived by her one sister, Mary Jean (Lohr) Yoder, Hopwood, Pa.; nephews, Jeff Yoder and wife Cheryl, Farmington, Pa. and Walker T. Wells and wife Janet, Plainefield, Ill.; one niece, Judy Sova and husband Theodore II, Hopwood, Pa.; three great-nephewsd;one great-niece; and one great-great-nephew. Friends will be received Sunday, Dec. 12, from 12-2 p.m. at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Dr., Oakland. A service will follow the visitation in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m., with Pastor Barbara Rexrode officiating. Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.
