Rebecca Ann Ogle was born in Carroll county, Ohio, January 25th, 1855, and died June 5, 1923, at her home near Elgin, Iowa, aged 68 years four months and ten days. She came with her parents from Ohio in a lumber wagon in 1860 and settled on a farm in Illyria township, Fayette County, Iowa, where her aged mother now past eighty-nine years, still lives. She was married to Robert Peters December 2, 1875, who is now left to mourn the great loss. His grief is shared by her mother, one brother and two sisters, also by Chester peake, who has been a faithful member of the family for the past thirty eyars. The brother, Fremont Ogle, resides on the homestead with his aged mother; Mrs. Mattie Prouty resides in Elkader; Mrs. Clara Foster resides in Dubuque; her father and two sisters preceeded her in death. She has lived in Fayette and Clayton counties all of her life except two winters spent in Florida. She was baptized in the Presbyterian faith, but when a child. In her death the community has lost a citizen whose life was honorable and above reproach and to her brother and sisters one whose memory will be cherished and respected, to her husband, a loving companion, and to the aged mother, a devoted and loving daughter. In the last few years she has been a great sufferer but in it all she was patient and calm and was resigned to the will of the Heavenly Father. She was highly respected and many friends. She was always ready to lend a helping hand in the time of trouble or sickness. She was kind and unassuming in her ways, not pushing herself ahead but waiting for the door of opportunity to open where she could be used in the help of the needy. She [newspaper fold]. . .and she closed her eyes and passed away without a struggle. The funeral sermon was preached in the Illyria church by Rev. Stewart of the Presbyterian church from the text "Watchman What of the night", assisted by J. S. Moore, to a very large gathering of relatives and friends. The pall bearers were six of her nephews, Devillo Prouty, Robert Ernst, James Klingman, Fremont Foster, Wm. Wickham and Thomas Ogle. The body was laid to rest in the cemetery near the church.
