Born Nov. 12, 1932, to Estelle P. and William E. Bayrd, she was a lifelong resident of Lovingston, Va. and a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church. Rebecca was married 53 years to her beloved sweetheart, Richard P. Harvey, who predeceased her in 2003. A devoted mother, grandmother and loving sister, Rebecca is survived by daughter, Gwynn Harvey, of Richmond, daughter Ramona Newsome and son-in-law, Rich, and grandson, Aaron, of Charlottesville, daughter, Romelda Guglielmo and son-in-law, Gabe, and grandchildren, Rose and Alex, of Alexandria, and brother, John Bayrd and his wife Anne, of Lovingston, and niece Beth Bayrd, of Wilmington, N.C., and nephew, Bill Bayrd, of Chicago, Illinois. Rebecca's primary occupation was mother to her three girls; however, she was also employed through the years at the Lynchburg Training School, Nelson County High School as well as the Nelson County Cannery. She was a member of the Business & Professional Women's Club as well as the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. A lover of Boston Terriers, talented quilter and avid collector of antique glass, Rebecca most delighted in all flowering plants. She was truly gifted with the proverbial green thumb. Her plentiful plantings still bloom on her adored "hillside" and the homes of her many friends and family. A graveside service will be held Monday Jan. 31, 2011, at 11 am at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lovingston with Chaplin David Flack officiating.
