Description	:	Rebecca was the first daughter of William and Euphemia (Jackson) Braden, 1792 immigrants from County Tyrone, Ulster, to Westmoreland Co., PA. By 1805, the Braden family had moved to KY where they remained until a final relocation to Decatur Co., IN was made about 1822. Rebecca married Dr. James William Lewis in Decatur Co., IN in 1823. To this couple were born eleven identifiable children. The following notice of Rebecca's death recently was found in a family member's possession allowing Rebecca Braden Lewis to be memorialized in her final resting place. The... The following notice of Rebecca's death recently was found in a family member's possession allowing Rebecca Braden Lewis to be memorialized in her final resting place. The notice is quoted herewith: "Mr. and Mrs. John C. Jones were notified last week of the death of the latter's mother, Grandma Lewis, who was staying with the family of her son-in-law, E. E. Cantril at Mt. Sterling, Iowa. Grandma was ninety-two years of age and, until she sustained a stroke of paralysis several years ago, was as active as a woman of forty-five. She leaves a large number of descendants, there being, we believe sixty-four grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. She will be remembered as the wife of Dr. Lewis, one of the pioneers in the medical profession of southwestern Iowa. She was buried at the cemetery in Cantril, where also reposes the remains of another of Afton's pioneers, Grandma Alley. Grandma Lewis was an intense sufferer during the past two or three years. She had been an earnest Christian since her youth and welcomed death as a relief. During the three months last winter that she made the writer's house her home, she set an example of cheerfulness and resignation worthy a Christian life and character. After a long life of usefulness, she is now at rest."
