Born in Chariton county, Missouri, January 22, 1896, Dempsey Finnell came to Cass county in 1916 and farmed near Cumberland for a number of years and managed a general store in Cumberland. He has lived in Massena the last five years. He married Dorothy Peterman of Cumberland August 20, 1930. He is survived by his widow, a son, Clyde, his mother, Mrs. Julia Finnell, and a brother, Elmer, the latter two of Keytesville, Missouri. They arrived today in Massena for the funeral. Atlantic News Telegraph March 8, 1948 Page 7 Finnell Funeral Massena - Funeral services for Dempsey Finnell were held in the local Church of Christ Thursday afternoon with Rev. W. E. Craig in charge of the rites. Arthur Taylor, Earl Millhillin, Wray Wollenhaupt, and Earl Hastings sang "The Old Rugged Cross," "There'll Be No Tears in Paradise," and "Nearer My God to Thee." Mrs. R. F. Peel was the pianist. Casket bearers were Glen Eblen, Kenneth McKee, G. R. Gore, Harold Mills, Robert Reichardt, and A. J. Cruise. In charge of the floral arrangement were Mrs. Conrad McKee and Mrs. Kenneth McKee. Interment was in the Victoria township cemetery. The students in the 7th and 8th grades and their teacher, Miss Bernice Lantz, attended the services in a body. Attending from a distance were the mother, Mrs. Julia Finnell, and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Finnell of Keytesville, Missouri, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mallory and Mrs. Bernice Ricketts of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Willis Peterman and son Jim and Mrs. Loyd Peterman and son Zell of Villisca; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Peterman and Mrs. Hattie Krauth and Norman of Atlantic; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Martens of Winterset.
