Regina was only the second daughter and was welcomed and pampered by her older brothers. Read More	Regina Bauer Ebenal February 28, 1916 - November 28, 2007 Smith Funeral Home ELLENSBURG - Regina was born to Mary Anna (nee Geislinger) and John Bauer in the family home near Kenmare, North Dakota. Regina was only the second daughter and was welcomed and pampered by her older brothers. Regina attended St. Agnes Catholic School until second grade and then completed her 8th grade education in Kenmare public schools. At 16, she began her first job working at the Kenmare Hospital as an aide. When she was 25, she traveled to Missoula, Montana to her brother Mike's home where she stayed and helped her sister-in-law, Agnes, during Agnes' pregnancy and with her five children. The boy next door offered to help Regina with her chores by milking the cow and a romance was born over a pail of milk. When Frank Ebenal embarked on the military train for basic training later that winter, Regina proudly wore his engagement ring. Regina followed Frank to Montgomery, Alabama, where he was eventually based at the Maxwell Field U.S. Air Corps base. Regina took a job there working at the Montgomery Fair department store altering clothes and furs. Then, on November 26, 1942, Regina and Frank exchanged their vows in the Post Chapel at Maxwell Field on Thanksgiving Day. When the war was over, Frank and Regina followed Frank's brother, Roy, to Sunnyside, Washington where Frank began working construction doing carpenter work. After four years of marriage, their first eagerly awaited child, Dennis, was born. Over the course of the next eight years, Regina proudly presented Frank with a daughter, Joan, and two more sons, John and Mike. Regina and Frank were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside and very active in the parish. Regina was also a member of the Ladies Guild and enjoyed her Tuesday get-togethers with the group that lasted her lifetime while in Sunnyside. In 1964, Regina went to work at the St. Joseph Catholic School as a cook. After her husband, Frank died in 1968, Regina started working at the Headstart daycare as a cook and she continued working there until her retirement in 1981 when she was 65 years old. She enjoyed her retirement and traveled a great deal with her younger sister and her husband, Loretta and Jack Cunningham. She loved to sew and made many quilts for her children and stuffed toys for her grandchildren. She was a great cook and loved to prepare Sunday dinner for her family when they visited. Her rhubarb pie and fresh strawberry pies were always looked forward to for dessert. Regina was such an avid rhubarb pie fan that her son, Mike, had to plant rhubarb out at his house to make sure there was enough rhubarb stalks for all the pies that she would bake. The rhubarb plant at her house was frequently denuded of stalks after company would visit. Regina was 91 years when she finally passed away and saw the price of Coca-Cola go from 5 cents to $1.25 and from riding to church in a horse and buggy to riding there in the luxury of automobiles. Regina walked every day to church until her health began to fail and then she moved into assisted living at Sunnyside Terrace. As she developed more health problems, she moved into Hearthstone Cottage in Ellensburg and stayed there until she broke her hip and then moved yet again to Royal Vista Care Center where she spent her last days. Regina was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and John Bauer, and her brothers, Anton, Leonard, Alphonse, Wendel, Mike, Nick and Albert and her sisters, Marie Ames and Helena Caroline. She is survived by her sister, Loretta Cunningham of Seattle, a sister-in-law, Kay Albright of Great Falls, Montana and a brother-in-law, Jim Caroline of Kenmare, North Dakota. She is also survived by her children Dennis Ebenal of Ellensburg, and his two sons, Matthew Ebenal of Sunnyside and Frank Ebenal of Ellensburg; Joan and her husband Douglas Marshall of Seattle and their daughter, Priya; John and his wife, Sherrie Ebenal of Ellensburg and their daughters, Laurel and Mary; and Michael Ebenal of Sunnyside. She had 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank all the staff at Sunnyside Terraces Assisted Living, Hearthstone Cottage, Royal Vista Care Center and Ellensburg Hospice for all their care and support of Regina. Viewing and visitation will be held Sunday, December 2, 2007 from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 P.M. at the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, December 3, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sunnyside, WA with burial to follow at the Sunnyside Cemetery, Sunnyside, WA. Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
