Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. Phillip Gibbs officiating. Regina enjoyed the flowers she received while living, upon her request, in lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed to: St. Benedict’s Catholic School, Winneshiek Medical Center Auxiliary, the Barthell Eastern Star Home and Arlin Falck Assisted Living. Regina Cecilia (Knox) Broghammer was born on February 2, 1908 in Burr Oak Township, to Tom and Marie (Cashman) Knox. Regina attended Pierce Country School, the Visitation Academy in Dubuque for three years and then returned to Decorah and graduated from Decorah High School in 1927. Regina taught country school for three years at the Patterson and Lost Nation Country Schools. She then went to work at the Decorah Coat & Suit Company, also known as McNeill’s Coat and Suit for ten years. Regina married Leo Conrad Broghammer on October 19, 1940 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church. Together, she and Leo farmed north of Decorah. Regina was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, where she served as President of the Rosary Society. She was a member of the Choir and was charter member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She served on the Liturgy Committee and has been in charge of making Baptismal Stoles for hundreds of babies baptized at St. Benedicts. She also served as President of the Decorah Business Women’s Club and also was a charter member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Regina enjoyed being “Iowan of the Day” at the Iowa State Fair in 2004. Regina enjoyed volunteering thousands of hours at the Winneshiek Medical Center and at St. Benedict’s Catholic School, with the Wednesday Ladies. Regina received a special commendation from the Decorah Chamber of Commerce for her volunteering. Regina’s survivors include her daughter: Mary (John) Boege, Andover, MN. One granddaughter: Kate Boege, Chicago, IL. One grandson: Steve (Lisa) Boege, St. Mateo, CA. One great granddaughter: Claire Boege and one great grandson: Nicholas Boege. One sister: Genevieve Palmersheim, Urbandale, IA and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Regina was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, in 1978; her daughter, Barb McCarty in 1989; six sisters, Grace Knox, Mildred Drew, Vera Gilbertson, Geraldine Bell, Marcella Knox and Mary Knox in infancy and one brother: T. J. Knox.
