Description	:	Regina Van Zee Steenhoek was born on November 18, 1918, near Leighton. She was the fourth of six children born to Henry J. and Anna Huigen Van Zee. Regina attended the Centennial Country Grade School and longed to attend high school and go into nursing. The depression made this dream all but impossible. Read More	Regina Van Zee Steenhoek was born on November 18, 1918, near Leighton. She was the fourth of six children born to Henry J. and Anna Huigen Van Zee. Regina attended the Centennial Country Grade School and longed to attend high school and go into nursing. The depression made this dream all but impossible. No stranger to hard work, she worked outside on her parent's farm doing chores and helping with the crops. As a teenager she lived with an elderly woman, caring for her needs and doing the cooking and cleaning. ON March 7, 1939 she married Richard Steenhoek. They had four children. Following their marriage they rented a farm east of Pella for two years. Then in 1941 they purchased 320 acres of land just south of Pella. Regina was a busy housewife and a willing worker in church and school groups. At the age of 60 she suffered a stroke. OVer the course of the past twenty years she has had repeated lighter strokes. Rich and Regina lived in the Pella area until 1995 when they went to make their residence with their son, Paul, in Ames. Regina was a member of the Covenant Reformed Church in Pella. Regina died June 21, 2001 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
