Schools: Dillon, South Carolina - United States Army Airborne. Living near the Racetrack in Dillon, South Carolina Glen walked horses and did odd jobs. That plus three older brothers and a father who was a Policeman gave Glen a head start in the rural South of the 1930's. Also Glen was a Natural Athlete who could run faster, jump higher and hit harder than his peers. He attended East Elementary School in Dillon, South Carolina, and sent to Dillon High School where he excelled in track, baseball, basketball, football and boxing. He continued boxing in the Army representing his unit fighting against other units where he proved to be a credit to himself and to the United States Army. During World War II Glen spent three years in New Guninea fighting Japanese and there earned medals for Valor, Honor and Bravery. He fought alongside British troops some of whom remained lifelong friends. Glen's training in the Airborne Infantry proved to be very useful as well as life saving. He became a buyer for The Imperial Tobacco Company of the United Kingdom. GLEN was a member of Battery "B" 263rd Coast Artillery in 1941, Ordered to active duty on Jan. 13, 1941. He went off to the defense of the Charleston Harbor at Fort Moultrie, South Carolina, of course it was never attached. The National Guard Unit became a member of the United States Army on December 8, 1941, the day after the attach on Pearl Harbor that sent America into war in the Pacific Theater of World War II. "Glen" was a retired buyer for the Imperial Tobacco Company of the United Kingdom and a part time employee at the Pineland Country Club at Mullins, South Carolina. He was also a member of the VFW, American Legion and a member of the Mullins First Baptist Church.
