Description	:	Reinder Dykstra passed away in his home at Sioux Center on July 3, 1941 at the age of 73 years after a short illness of only a few days following a fall in which he broke two ribs. Mr. Dykstra was born Feb. 17, 1868 at Pingjum in the Province of Friesland, the Netherlands and came to America with his parents in 1882. He spent most of his life in farming and after that he was custodian of the Central Ref. church for 20 years. He served the community as bell ringer for more than 20 years and was very faithful in this work. Surviving are Rev. Mr. B. D. Dykstra of Orange City and Mrs. Anthony Te Paske of Sioux Center and 22 nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were held from the Central Ref. church on Saturday July 5 and interment was made at the local cemetery. Sioux County Capital 1941-07-17. The Reinder Dykstra Clock By His friend J. C. SCHALEKAMP Someone, I believe it was Gispen, once said: "Amsterdam is governed by the kitchen maid of the Burgemeester". Now that is likely putting it a bit too strong but perhaps important things may have come about in the City of Amsterdam which had their origin, in the mind of the kitchen maid who talked things over with her mistress. She with her husband and thus from the more exalted mind of the Burgemeester the idea was carried out. We might almost say something similar of the late Mr. Reinder Dykstra. For he was the man who gave a keynote to the residents of' Sioux Center by ringing the bell of Central Church three times daily. He did this thruout a stretch of 20 years. He was so accurate. One could depend on him. Reinder counted not only minutes but seconds also. When the seven o'clock bell was heard in the morning everybody knew that the daily tasks had begun. At twelve there was the dinner bell and the worker stopped. Again at six the bell announced that it was time to rest. Is it odd, therefore, that we said that as a bellringer Reinder gave the keynote to the town for full twenty years? But this faithful attendance to a duty came to an end. After a brief illness Mr. Dykstra passed away on July 3, 1941 at the age of seventythree. The regular daily bell was heard no more. Then especially his work was appreciated. Then too the privilege was valued most when it was missed. Many said with us "How quiet it is without the bell". However in his last will he has made provision for, keeping time in Sioux Center. He gives an electric clock. This is now being installed, as directed, at the front of the First National Bank. A CLOCK — nothing more appropriate could have been expected; Reinder was ever a man of the clock. Oh, how much a clock has to say to us. And what solemn thoughts it sometimes prompts. That dial – in quiet contemplation we cannot say which but of a certainty, that "one of these hours will be my last". Therefore that not one of my days be lost entirely. Wasted hours – too late they pierce the heart with regret. Each moment - on it speeds and never hears our tearful call to come again. Doubtless some such thoughts have been in Reinder's heart.
