Description	:	Reinhold was born March 8, 1842 in Saxe Weimar, Germany, the son of Gottleb and Sofia Schwenke. He came to the United States with his parents at 9 years of age and resided near Chicago. Soon after coming to this country, both parents died and at the age of 12 in a strange country, Reinhold was left an orphan. He then made his home with a brother in Minnesota where he lived a pioneer life for several years. From Minnesota he went to Scott County in Iowa, working here and there until grown. On May 4, 1864 Reinhold enlisted in the... Read More	Reinhold was born March 8, 1842 in Saxe Weimar, Germany, the son of Gottleb and Sofia Schwenke. He came to the United States with his parents at 9 years of age and resided near Chicago. Soon after coming to this country, both parents died and at the age of 12 in a strange country, Reinhold was left an orphan. He then made his home with a brother in Minnesota where he lived a pioneer life for several years. From Minnesota he went to Scott County in Iowa, working here and there until grown. On May 4, 1864 Reinhold enlisted in the Union Army and served until September 15, 1864 when he received his honorable discharge at Davenport, Iowa. Six years later in 1870 he came to Cass County and bought the farm near Massena, which he owned until the time of his death. Reinhold married Mary Snyder on November 10, 1873 in her parents' home. She was born November 10, 1853 in Wisconsin. Reinhold died November 6, 1919 and Mary died January 21, 1929. They were the parents of five children: Laura (Mrs. Robert Garside), Leslie (who married Edith Mills), Franklin Adair "Frank" (who married Minnie Wilson), Arthur (who married Mable Karas), and Rose (Mrs. James Edgar). His death occurred Friday morning. Mr. Schwenke had been ill for a week. He leaves a number of children.
