Mr. Godfrey had been a resident of northern Montana for more than twenty years, having engaged in the sheep business near Big Sandy in the early nineties, and had a wide acquaintance among residents of the Bear Paw country. Mr. Godfrey had been a resident of northern Montana for more than twenty years, having engaged in the sheep business near Big Sandy in the early nineties, and had a wide acquaintance among residents of the Bear Paw country. He was an industrious, law abiding citizen, and enjoyed the respect and friendship of his neighbors. --- The remains of the late Reuben Godfrey were shipped to Big Sandy last night, the funeral services to be held at that place. --- The Bear Paw Mountaineer, Big Sandy, MT, 14 Dec 1911 Old Resident Passes Away Once more the angel of death came among us and took from our midst Reuben Godfrey, one who has lived around here for the past 25 years. His death was very sudden he being sick here a few days and then removed to the hospital in Benton where he died last Thursday morning at 10 o'clock. Reuben Godfrey was born in Weaver county, north Ogden, Utah, and was 57 years of age. During the last 25 years he has been a resident here excepting two year in which he lived in Asotin county, Washington. He was in the sheep business and owned a large ranch in the Bear Paw mountains which he afterwards sold and took up a claim near Black Coulee. He was married in Fort Benton, July 18, 1900, to Miss Jannie E. Vanderhoof. He is survived by a widow and two sons, Charles R. and Walter J. Their first child died in its infancy. Reuben Godfrey was a well liked man, honest in all his dealings, and respected by everyone. The funeral was the largest her for some time, Rev. Auger preaching the sermon. In the cemetery northwest of town he was laid to rest beside his brother and daughter. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of the entire family.
