Abraham Bedel was born in Limerick, Maine, Nov. 23, 1797, and died in North Stratford, in May of the present year. He enlisted in the United States Service in 1814, and was in the battle of Plattsburg. In 1832 he was ordained as an evangelist, at the call of the church in Camden, Me., and labored with the churches in Camden, West Gardiner, and Andover, of that state, for a period of ten years. He was afterwards settled at Jefferson six years, laboring in protracted meetings, in adjoining towns, with much success. In 1848 he was employed by the Convention as a missionary in Coos county; subsequently he labored in Vermont and Canada until 1864, when he removed to Jefferson, acting as pastor of that church for one year, and supplying Carroll a portion of the time for three years. In the fall of 1868 he became pastor of the church in North Stratford, which relation continued until his decease. The nearly thirty-eight years of his ministry were passed in fields requiring arduous labor in their cultivation, with very small pecuniary compensation. But he rests from his toils and his cares, and the fields he sowed are waiting for other reapers." Inscription Reads: After a faithful and laborious ministry of about 38 years died at North Stratford while pastor of the Baptist Church in that place, May 17, 1870, age 72 years, 6 months Father in that solemn trust We commend thee dust to dust In that faith we wait till risen Thou shalt meet us all in heaven.
