Read More	The people of this community were greatly shocked and grieved yesterday when the news came that Rev. Bert S. Bailey, formerly a popular pastor of the local M.E. Church, had passed away suddenly at his home in Dysart. Rev. Bailey had been in his usual good health until on Tuesday evening, when he spoke at an installation ceremony of the Knights of Pythias at Dysart, when he noticed that he was having difficulty in breathing. On Wednesday morning he consulted a physician and while at the doctor's office was seized with an attack, but prompt attention warded it off and he was able to return home. A few minutes after his arrival at home, while he was seated in a chair, the final stroke came bringing almost instant death. Rev. Bailey had many friends in this city where he served as pastor of the Methodist church from 1923 to last September, when he was transferred to Dysart. Services at the local church will be cancelled on Sunday morning to allow Rev. Bailey's friends here to attend the funeral services of their beloved former pastor at Dysart. Bert S. Bailey was born at Dyersville, Iowa, August 19, 1871, the son of Henry Morle and Laura F. Bailey. When he was four years old, he moved with his parents to Marion where he made his home for many years. In July, 1905, he was married to Myrtle Barnhill of Marion, and to this union, one son, H. Morle Bailey was born. After the death of his first wife, Mr. Bailey married Mary E. Pearson at Springville on November 8, 1905, who survives her husband. Rev. Bailey was a graduate of Cornell College and of the State University of Iowa, graduating from the latter institution in 1895 in liberal arts on one day and in law on the following day. For a time he practiced law, but later took up the ministry. He was admitted on trial to the Upper Iowa conference of the M.E. Church in 1905 and to full membership in 1907. He served as pastor of the churches of Tipton Circuit, Andrew, LeClaire, Martelle, Springville, Lisbon, State Center and Dysart. He is survived by the widow, one son, H. Morle Bailey of Los Angeles, Calif., his mother Laura F. Bailey of Marion, who is very ill at her home with death momentarily expected; three sisters, Msr. John B. Finney of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. E.E. Wilcox of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Wm. T. Hines of Yakima, Wash.; and two brothers, Dr. Walter H. Bailey of Denver and Ralph Bailey of Yakima, Wash. Rev. Bailey was a member of the Masonic lodge of Lisbon, the Knights of Pythias at Dysart and of the Pythian Sister of State Center. Funeral srevices will be held at the Methodist church at Dysart on Sunday morning at 10:00 o'clock, Dr. W.C. Cleworth conducting the service, assisted by Dr. Baker of Marion. Services will also be held at the Methodist church at Marion at 3:00 p.m.
