Description	:	Alfred Huus (1860-1910), was born in Lisbon, Illinois, the second son of Lars and Ragnhild Huus. His father, a blacksmith, had left Norway ten years earlier, and had met and married Ragnhild Anfinsdatter Seim in Chicago in 1855. His father, a blacksmith, had left Norway ten years earlier, and had met and married Ragnhild Anfinsdatter Seim in Chicago in 1855. Alfred was baptized by Peder Andreas Rasmussen, the newly installed pastor of the Lisbon (IL) Lutheran Church, who became a strong influence in the life and work of Alfred. He did not follow his older brother, Edmund, to the Colorado mines, as did his two sisters and brother Tobias. Instead he chose ministerial training. Alfred accompanied the Rasmussen sons to Luther College, Iowa, where he began his preparations for the ministry, and to the Lutheran Seminary of Capitol University, Ohio, where he completed his pastoral training. In 1886 he began his ministry at Muskego and North Cape Churches in Wisconsin, and in that same year he married Mattie Serene Rasmussen, the daughter of P. A. and Ragnild Rasmussen. While his father, mother and siblings changed their name from "Huus" to House, Alfred elected to keep the Norwegian name, "Huus". From Wisconsin, Alfred and Mattie moved to Decorah, Iowa, where he served a church from 1892 to 1897. In Wisconsin and Iowa, Mattie gave birth to three children: Hilda, Peter and Randolph. Mattie died in 1894, and was buried with her parents in Lisbon, Illinois. In the following year, Alfred married Martha Adland 30 Oct 1895 in Racine, Wisconsin. The pair had met while he was serving the church at North Cape, Wisconsin. To this union six children were born: Julia Malinda, born in 1896; Thomas Alfred (1897); Lois Ruth (1898); Edna (1900); Lavina (1902) and Evelyn (1905). Following his pastorate in Decorah, Alfred served Lutheran Churches at Cambridge, Iowa; Crookston, Minnesota; Twin Valley, Minnesota; and served his last at Silver Lake Lutheran Church, of which cemetery he spends his eternal slumber along with his second wife Martha, who died in 1945. Reverend Huus breathed his last just three days after Christmas in 1910, the same year he helped celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Silver Lake Lutheran Church with his Norwegian Synod congregation.
