Description	:	Rev. Amos Bennett, an old resident and respected citizen, died at his home four miles southeast of Moingona on Tuesday morning at 12;15 o'clock. Cancer was the cause of death, the deceased having been afflicted for a year or more. Mr. Bennett was 45 years and a native of Boone County. His parents removed from Ohio in an early day. The father was drowned while Amos was yet a child and the latter made his home with an uncle, Malachai Staley, who still resides in Marcy Township. About seven years ago he entered the ministry of the M.E. church and at the time of his death was pastor of the Pleasant Hill church. He leaves a wife and six children, also a brother, Joshua Stumbo, all of who reside in this county. The funeral took place from the Pleasant Hill church on Wednesday morning and the remains were interred in the cemetery at that place. The deceased was a Mason in good standing. ========== Amos H. Bennett was born on 05 December 1855 in Worth Twp, Boone County Iowa to Samuel and Emily (Cowell) Bennett. Emily's date of death is shown as 05 December 1855 so it must be assumed that she either died giving birth to Amos, or shortly thereafter. Amos was the baby of the family and was given to his father's sister Susan to raise after his mother died. Amos was also reported to have been a twin. He only lived to be 44 years old, so census info for him is very limited. In stories told about Amos he was often referred to as "The Barefoot Preacher". Until the location of his grave this title was unsubstantiated.
