Andrew Vandiver Harbin, a retired Methodist Minister, passed away at his home after a prolonged illness of several weeks. Rev. Harbin was born in Greenville County. South Carolina and was the son of the late A.V. and Sarah Kate Bramlett Sheppard. He has served in the ministry for 51 years and has served in California, Arizona and Texas. At one time he was a missionary to Mexico. Rev. Harbin was married twice first to Ivey Edwards Harbin from which union the following children survive: four sons, the Rev. Andrew Vandiver Harbin Jr. missionary to Kobe, Japan, J.E. Harbin from Tallahassee, Florida, T.M. Harbin, R. L. Harbin both from Columbia; two daughters, Mrs. J. L. Cochran from Union, Mrs. A. W. Davidson from Davidson, Georgia and eight grandchildren. His second wife, Mrs. Kate Fair Harbin also survives him along with one half-brother, William Thomas Sheppard, three half-sisters, Mrs. Lillie Sheppard Henderson, Mrs. Ella Sheppard Ross and Mrs. Mallie Sheppard Cox all from Greenville. In addition to his parents and first wife, Rev. Andrew Harbin was preceded in death by one half-brother, Jesse Theodore Sheppard who died in 1904 and one half-sister, Mrs. Lettie H. Jones who died in 1929. Services will be held at Pine Grove Methodist Church on Wednesday at 3 p.m. with Rev. E. K. Garrison from Clinton, Rev. T. H. Vickery from Olanta, Rev. Paul Whitaker from Kingstree and Rev. J.F. M. Hoffmeyer from Johnston officiating followed by internment in Jerusalem Church Cemetery, near Elloree.
