Description	:	A descendant of the first pioneer families to settle in South Carolina, he was the grand nephew of John Leighton Wilson, D.D., who himself stood as a giant among southern presbyterians as a minister and missionary, and which inspired Benjamin to pursue a similar role to serve humanity. Benjamin first served as minister to the First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg, S.C. for 4 years. He left there to become the first president of Converse College. He wrote a very popular sermon on the Twenty-third Psalm, and a chapel at the Sunnyside Presbyterian Home near Harrisonburg was named for him. He did not have any children.
