Description	:	Bertuleit's first name was taken from his mother's maiden name. His birth father was Charles Cox, but his mother was divorced from him and remarried to Daniel Webster Kuhn in 1895. At that time Bertuleit (Bert) and his three siblings all took the last name of Kuhn and continued using this last name for the rest of their lives. Read More	Bertuleit's first name was taken from his mother's maiden name. His birth father was Charles Cox, but his mother was divorced from him and remarried to Daniel Webster Kuhn in 1895. At that time Bertuleit (Bert) and his three siblings all took the last name of Kuhn and continued using this last name for the rest of their lives. I assume they changed their names legally because they used the name of Kuhn on legal documents. Their mother had three additional children with Daniel Kuhn, and their birth father had a number of children with his second wife, so there are a lot of half-siblings, named both Kuhn and Cox. Bertuleit Kuhn was a Methodist minister. In the early years of his work he served as a home missionary for Park Avenue Methodist Church in Minneapolis, later going to Nebraska where he married Ethel Rose Park in 1917. They had four children born in Minneapolis, Minnesota (the first two children), Nebraska (the third child), and Pennsylvania (the fourth child), as they moved from one ministerial assignment to the next. By 1930 they had moved to Washington state, where they remained for the rest of their lives, living in several different communities. I have an unverified death date of February 2, 1976 for Bert's wife Ethel, but I don't have any additional information. She is not in Find A Grave at this time (Oct. 2019). Bertuleit's death certificate has a couple of inconsistent pieces of information on it. The first names of both his parents are completely wrong, although the last names are correct (except his adoptive father is listed as father). His mother was Rose Berthuleit, but is listed as Amanda. I did not find any family members named Amanda. His father's name is listed as Oliver Kuhn, but it was Daniel (actually his stepfather). I did not find any family members named Oliver. As mentioned, his birth father was Charles Cox, but it is understandable that his father was listed as Kuhn because the children did not seem to list Mr. Cox as their father after they left his household. Although Bertuleit's exact birth date is correct, his birth place is listed as Wisconsin, although it is correct on his draft cards, so he certainly knew where he was born. However, this may be somewhat understandable as his later siblings were born in Wisconsin. The informant on the death certificate was his wife Ethel. Did she not know the correct information, or was there a reason it was wrong??? It's a mystery.
