Carl Herman Wittstruck, age 82, died on DATE in the caring and loving community of the David Place Nursing Home in David City, NE. From his birth in Lancaster County, on Sept. 5, 1936 to his death on WEEK DAY he nourished people around him with love, faith, and the gift of imagination. He was born on a farm near Centerville, NE to Elmer and Wilhelmina (Fischer) Wittstruck and was the younger of two brothers. He was born as what was then termed a “Blue Baby” requiring the need to be carried by his mother vertically for the first eighteen months of his life. He started farming 360 acres on his own in 1958 using hand-me-down equipment he bought from his brother. Along with the usual crops of corn, milo and wheat; his main livestock were Suffolk sheep loaning them out to what was then Reddish Brothers Implement of Lincoln. In the late 60’s his father decided to make the change from sheep to Guernsey cows believing that milking would be a better profit; the milk went first to Skyline Dairy and later to Roberts Dairy. The family were charter members of the Lancaster County Grade “A” Association; this he continued until 1978. Most of his life was dedicated to his father and brother’s wishes. This came to pass in 1982 while his own son was involved in Beirut, Lebanon as a “Peacekeeper”; he was released from the family farm by his brother and oldest nephew. He then moved to Lincoln to pursue his calling from the Lord and was ordained into ministry on Sept. 9th 1984. He had never finished school although his mother was a school teacher. He had worked several jobs during the years of hard farming, these included working as a mechanic at Crete Buick and Pontiac, Alpo (Now Purina) and as a volunteer driver for the Lincoln Action Program. Once his son was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1983. He drove a wrecker part time for his son (Atlas Towing) and enjoyed the time together. He is the author of three books: Life on the Prairie, Hallelujah Trail and Diesel Smoke; as requested these will not to be released until after… Left to honor Carl and remember his love are Carl’s four children, Robin (Terry) Stevens of Lincoln, NE, Karl (Lisa) Wittstruck of Granville, ND, Vicky (Robert) Winkler of Omaha, NE, and Candace (Corky) Bean of Omaha, NE; nine grandchildren; Phil (Stacy) Stevens, Ron (Jenna) Stevens, Audrey (Richard) Frey, and David Stevens, Eric (Candace) Wittstruck, Trenton Wittstruck, Jared Winkler, Mason (Lauren) Winkler, and Vincent Winkler; ten great-grandchildren: Blaze, Cadence, Angelyna, Selena, Johnathan, Alyssa, Dominic, Michaelee, Jason, Mia, and many nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by two spouses, his parents and brother. The Wittstruck family would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at the David Place Nursing Home in David City, specifically those that came to know him for their attentiveness and loving care. As quoted by Carl “I am living and treated like a millionaire”. Funeral services will be held on Monday, DATE / TIME at the Kracl Chapel, 1954 Industrial Rd., David City, with the Rev. Ron Lau officiating. Burial will be at the Centerville Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in Carl’s name to the Centerville Cemetery Committee, care of the Martell United Methodist Church, 2700 W Martell Rd, Martell, NE 68404.
