Three clergymen will officiate at the funeral Saturday of Rev.Charles Garlock, 83, 213 W. 17th street, South Sioux City, who died of a heart attack and complications at this home Thursday. Rev. Mr.Garlock had been a resident of Sioux City and South Sioux City for 46 years and at one time was a well known Methodist evangelist. Final Services will begin with a short prayer in Rev. Mr.Garlock's home at 1:45 o'clock Saturday.Services at Boals Methodist church will begin at 2 o"clock with Rev. E.N.Littrell of Randolph,and W.E.Green and Rev.Paul W. Sawtell of South Sioux City in charge.Burial will be in Graceland cemetery in Sioux City with Becker's funeral home directing. Since his retirement from regular service several years ago, Rev. Mr. Garlock had been an active member of Boals Church in South Sioux City,serving on various church boards and for six years as Sunday school superintendent. Born at Clayton N.Y December 6,1855, he worked on a farm in his youth and attended common school,going later to a seminary at Mount Carroll,Ill. During his seminary training he assisted in evangelistic services and served for two years as pastor of a charge nearby. Rev. Mr.Garlock became a missionary to South Dakota in 1880,his territory including White Lake,Kimball,and Chamberlain. He built the Methodist church at White Lake and later was appointed to assist the presiding elder in organizing church work in Brule,Charles Mix,Buffalo and Jerauld counties where most services were held in sod houses or school buildings.In the year Rev.George Haddock was slain in Sioux City,Rev. Mr.Garlock left his mission work and came here to conduct a three month series of revival meetings.Later he became one of the leading evangelist's in the northwest Iowa and the upper Iowa conferences of the Methodist church and still later conducted evangelistic work in Illinois,Minnesota,Colorado and Kansas. Mrs.Fidelia A. Garlock,whom he married in 1886 at LeMars, used to accompany Rev. Mr.Garlock on his travels. Surviving are his widow, three daughters, Mrs.Pearl E. Franz of Walla Walla, Wash, Mrs. Amber L.Welch of Duluth, Minn, and Mrs. Nellie Hitt of South Sioux City; two sons, Charles W. Garlock of Anita,Ia, and Roy H.Garlock of South Sioux City; 24 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. * Needs to be noted that the house at 213 West 17th Street is on the list of Historical houses in Nebraska called Meisch House.
