Description	:	Rev. Christian Bek was born July 12, 1829, at Eichelberg, Germany. He died at his home in Seward, Nebraska on April 12, 1922, his age being 92 years and 9 months. Rev. Christian Bek was baptized and confirmed in his native land, where from his sixth to his fourteenth year he also attended the public school. His theological education he received at St. Chrischona, near Basel, Switzerland in the years 1851 to 1854. Christian Bek was born July 12, 1829, at Eichelberg, Germany. He died at his home in Seward, Nebraska on April 12, 1922, his age being 92 years and 9 months. Rev. Christian Bek was baptized and confirmed in his native land, where from his sixth to his fourteenth year he also attended the public school. His theological education he received at St. Chrischona, near Basel, Switzerland in the years 1851 to 1854. In 1855, after one year of missionary work in his home land, the ministerial board asked him to go to Texas, America, to organize a congregation in a German settlement. He was ordained in 1856 in Texas and became a member of the Synod in Texas. He was active in the ministry until 1894. During this time he had charge of various congregations in the German Evangelical Synod of North America. In 1877 he came to Nebraska. Here he obtained railroad land near Seward and stayed there three years, during which time he organized the Evangelical Friedens congregation of Seward, Nebraska. In 1880 he accepted a call from the Evangelical Salems church at Alhambra, Ill. Conditions at that church, however, were such that after a stay of twenty months he resigned and took charge of the Ev. Zions church near Falls City, Nebraska, which congregation he served for twelve years. In 1894 he resigned at Falls City and retired from the ministry actively, and moved to Seward to be with his children who already lived in Seward county. Rev. Christian Bek was married twice. On September 13, 1857 he was united in holy wedlock with Rozine Muenzenmaier, who preceded him in death on March 6, 1873. On April 30, 1874 he was married to Pauline Maier, who died on January 4, 1917. To these two unions fourteen children were born, nine sons and five daughters. One son, Christian, and three daughters, Emma, Pauline and Johanna, preceded their father in death. He leaves to mourn his departure ten children, eight sons, T. C. Bek of Seward, Carl G. Bek of Falls City, Nebraska, P. W. Bek of Seward, T. E. Bek of Seward, C. F. Bek of Chicago, Illinois, C. C. Bek of Winterset, Iowa, J. J. Bek of Charleston, West Virginia, and H. E. Bek of Charleston, West Virginia, and two daughters, Lydia R. Blanchard of Murdo, South Dakota, and Dora Bek of Seward, twenty grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, and one brother, Jacob Bek of Staplehurst, Nebraska. The funeral services were held on April 15 at 2:30 p.m. at the Evangelical Friedens church, conducted by the pastor of the congregation, Rev. Ad. Woth, assisted by Rev. Matzner of Lincoln, Nebraska, Rev. Wm. Kottich of Falls City, Nebraska, and Rev. L. Marx of Goehner, Nebraska, Rev. Matzner delivering the English sermon and Rev. Woth the German.
