Description	:	Delbert Lee "Del" Daire, 82, of Alma, Neb., died Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, in Council Bluffs. Del was born May 8, 1927, in Fort Collins, Colo., to Mike and Katherine (Buderus) Daire. Read More	Delbert Lee "Del" Daire, 82, of Alma, Neb., died Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, in Council Bluffs. Del was born May 8, 1927, in Fort Collins, Colo., to Mike and Katherine (Buderus) Daire. On June 26, 1955, he married Shirley Schiever in Salina, Kan. Survivors are: wife, Shirley Daire; son, David and his wife, Julie, of Sterling, Neb.; daughters, Deanna Debban of Las Vegas, Donna Centz and her husband, David, of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Delisa Beaudette and her husband, Jim, of Holdrege; brothers, Richard Daire and his wife, Pat, of Sunnyside, Wash., and Duane Daire and his wife, Sylvia, of Fort Collins; sister, Doris Griffin and her husband, William, of Greeley, Colo.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Del, as everyone came to know him, was baptized in July 1927 and later confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fort Collins. He attended Harmony Elementary School and others and graduated from high school in Fort Collins with the class of 1945. Del served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1946 to 1949. Following his discharge, he entered Midland College in Fremont and received his bachelor of arts degree. While attending there, he served in the U.S. Navy Reserve from 1949 until 1953. He later attended Central Theological Seminary and graduated in 1955 with a master's of divinity degree. While in seminary, he met the woman who was to become his wife. He and Shirley were married at St. John's Lutheran Church in Salina by the Rev. Walter Moeller. The couple started their lives together in Paxton, Neb., where he served as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church until 1959. In 1959, he entered the U.S. Army as a military chaplain and served at Fort Rucker, Ala., until 1962; Heidelberg, Germany, until 1965; and then the Presido of San Francisco until 1967. From 1967 to 1968, he attended Military Chaplain School in New York City and then served in Korea until 1969. In 1970, the family moved to Fort Riley, Kan., where he served, as well as during his tour of duty in Vietnam from 1971 to 1972. He returned to Fort Riley until 1974 and retired from the military. Del and his family moved to Funk, Neb., and he served as pastor at Friedhem Lutheran Church until 1981 when he retired and moved to Alma. He kept active as an interim pastor for 15 years before retiring in 1996. Sharing and swapping life's stories with anyone he met was one of his favorite pastimes along with hitting the "little white ball on the green pasture." He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Stamford, Neb., and was also a member of the Alma City Golf Course. Del was preceded in death by his father on Feb. 9, 1969; his mother on Feb. 23, 1991; daughter-in-law, Sherrie Daire in 1994; brother, Jerry Daire; youngest sister, Elizabeth Daire; and one grandchild, Nicholas Arnold. Interment of cremains was in the Prairie Home Cemetery, Holdrege, NE. Published in Kearney Hub on August 26, 2009
