II Timothy 4:7-8 Reverend Douglas M. Hardin went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at his residence. Rev. Hardin was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Lilburn T. "Cornbread" Hardin and Vergie Pierce Hardin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby and Billy Hardin; and a sister, Margaret Mathes. Reverend Hardin was presently serving as Pastor of Willow Springs Baptist Church and had previously worked for Safeway Pest Control, Appalachian Oil Company and Holston Oil Company. He attended Graham Bible College and earned his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed serving his flock at Willow Springs Baptist Church and enjoyed UT football, fishing, turkey hunting and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a United States Air Force veteran, having served in the Vietnam Era, where he was a Morse-Code interceptor operator. Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, three sons and their spouses; nine grandchildren, two step grandchildren, one sister, and four brothers. The graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Sunday, February 23, 2014 in the Buckles Cemetery, with Rev. Ronnie Campbell, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Rogers and her staff at the Oncology Department of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, Dr. Provance,Caris Hospice and their nurses for all the love and care shown to Rev. Hardin during his illness and to everyone that sent cards, called, visited and prayed. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donation to Willow Springs Baptist Church, 544 Willow Springs Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643; or to The American Cancer Society, C/O Lou Cooter, 415 Washington Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
