Hennig, 82, of 530 Bishop St., Plymouth, died Monday night at St. Nicholas Hospital, where he'd been a patient four days. He was born Nov. 1, 1904, in Edmonton, Albert, Canada, a son of Jacob and Katherine Thomas Hennig. He attended Edmonton schools, and graduated from Mission House Academy and Seminary (now Lakeland College) in 1932. On June 6, 1932, he married Ida Reineking in the Town of Herman. She died Dec. 16, 1972. On May 1, 1976, he married Florence Ten Pas in Plymouth. Following ordination in his home parish in Edmonton, the Rev. Mr. Hennig served parishes in Lowell, Wis.; Chilton; Waukon, Iowa; and St. John United Church of Christ, Schwarzwald. He also served as assistant pastor of Salem UCC, Plymouth, from 1968 to 1985. The Rev. Mr. Hennig celebrated his 50th anniversary of ordination in 1982. He was an active member of the Plymouth American Association of Retired Persons, which he had served as president. His efforts were instrumental in organizing the Moon Beach Church Camp in Eagle River, and for 17 years following its organization, he served as president of the board of directors of UCC church camps. A conference hall at Moon Beach was named in his honor. The Rev. Mr. Hennig also served as coordinator of chapel services at Valley Manor Nursing Home in Plymouth, as secretary of North Wisconsin UCC Synod, and of the Wisconsin Conference of United Church of Christ. He was a founder of the Rural Laymen's League, known now as the World's Church Fellowship. In the summer of 1986, he received a national award for poetry he had written. Surviving are his wife; three brothers, Frank and Carl of Edmonton, Canada, and Alfred of Fort Saskatchewan, Canada; and three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Manz of Edmonton, and Mrs. Adela Krebs and Mrs. Emma Mohr, both of Fort Saskatchewan. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Salem UCC in Plymouth: The Rev. Lowell Ferguson, pastor, and the Rev. James Hoppert, associate pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Immanuel UCC Cemetery in the Town of Herman. Friends may call at Wittkopp Funeral Home in Plymouth from 4 p.m. Wednesday until 10 a.m. on Thursday, and at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
