Description	:	Obituary from 1887, Rev. Edwin C. James was born Jan. 16, 1822 & died Feb. 2, 1887. He joined the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, when quite young, but did not profess religion till he was about 28-30 years old. He soon began to preach & was a faithful local preacher till his death. I called to see him & his day on the day after he was taken sick with a severe attach of pneumonia & asked about his condition. He promptly answered, "All is right." All through his illness, lasting about ten days, he... Read More	Obituary from 1887, Rev. Edwin C. James was born Jan. 16, 1822 & died Feb. 2, 1887. He joined the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, when quite young, but did not profess religion till he was about 28-30 years old. He soon began to preach & was a faithful local preacher till his death. I called to see him & his day on the day after he was taken sick with a severe attach of pneumonia & asked about his condition. He promptly answered, "All is right." All through his illness, lasting about ten days, he spoke of his being ready to go, thought his work was done, & "to die would be gain." He exhorted his family to be faithful, & one son not converted, to seek religion & set a good example to the other children. He is much lamented & missed. The light of the glory of God shone upon him as he was passing over the river. He being dead yet speaketh. He was remarkably faithful to fulfill his appointments, which he had kept up many years at the same churches. He was a zealous preacher, a good neighbor, a devoted husband to a devoted wife, & a kind father. He safely landed on the shore & is happy in heaven, & will look for his wife & seven children & many friends to join him there. So may it be. Rev. W.L. Pegues According to oral history Rev. E.C.
