Description	:	Rev. Emmett Theodore Busch was born on March 3, 1926 in Jackson County, IA to John C.A. and Caroline S. (Kokemuller) Busch. He attended an elementary country school, and then graduated from Elwood High in 1945. After farming for five years with his father, he attended Wartburg College and Wartburg Seminary, graduating in 1958, and was ordained shortly thereafter. Emmett Theodore Busch was born on March 3, 1926 in Jackson County, IA to John C.A. and Caroline S. (Kokemuller) Busch. He attended an elementary country school, and then graduated from Elwood High in 1945. After farming for five years with his father, he attended Wartburg College and Wartburg Seminary, graduating in 1958, and was ordained shortly thereafter. During his internship at St. James Lutheran in Mason City, IA, he met his future wife. He and Eilene were married on September 1, 1957. His first call in 1958 was to two churches in Saskatchewan, Canada; Peace Lutheran in Yellow Grass and St. John Lutheran in Lang. His first two children, Brian and Cheryl, were born at this time. In 1961, he accepted a call to St. John Lutheran in rural Greene, IA. In 1964, a new addition was added to the church containing 5 classrooms, restrooms, a church office and a new entry. His two youngest children, David and Eric, were born at this time. In 1967, Emmett accepted a call to St. John Lutheran in Bellevue, IA. In 1974, an educational unit, kitchen and office were built. In conjunction, old basement classrooms and restrooms were remodeled. In 1988, a large handicapped elevator was added to the main church. During this time, Emmett helped to start up Bellevue Meals on Wheels and was the Conference Dean for 4 years. After retiring in 1992, he served as interim minister in three local parishes, Andrew, Lost Nation and Goose Lake, as well as serving for various pastors on vacation. Emmett was a volunteer fireman for 15 years, an ambulance volunteer for 10 years, and a Rotary member for 28 years. Emmett drove a morning bus route for 20 years for the Bellevue School District. After his retirement, he continued his 'bus' routes, taking neighbor children to school and Eilene's students to piano lessons. He loved to fish and travel. He also loved to golf and spent many hours in his home woodworking shop. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Irene Wyatt, and a daughter-in-law, Kayla (Rasmussen) Busch.
