Cam., was ordained a Catholic priest for the Diocese of Lincoln, Nebraska, on May 16, 1959, and he later served as Superintendent of Schools for the Lincoln Diocese. Discerning a call to monastic life, he entered the Order of St. Benedict at Our Lady of Guadalupe Abbey in Pecos, New Mexico, professing solemn vows in 1980. Drawn to the Charismatic Renewal, he led the abbey's School for Spiritual Direction for several years.
