Description	:	Rev. F. Reuel Wampler Reuel was extremely religious and had a strong faith from an early age. He knew that he wanted to follow in the footsteps of many of his grandparents. He was first ordained by the Evangelical United Brethren Church commonly referred to as the EUB church, which was a North American Protestant church from 1946 to 1968. Reuel Wampler Reuel was extremely religious and had a strong faith from an early age. He knew that he wanted to follow in the footsteps of many of his grandparents. He was first ordained by the Evangelical United Brethren Church commonly referred to as the EUB church, which was a North American Protestant church from 1946 to 1968. He transitioned to The United Methodist Church (UMC) in 1968 after the merger of the EUB and the Methodist Church. He worked tirelessly to influence the new denomination with the conservative religious views of the former EUB church. Reuel was widely known and respected for his faith, knowledge of scripture, tireless religious study, and his beautiful prayers. Obituary The Rev. Francis Reuel Wampler, 71, formerly of Americus died May 21, 1994, in Aldersgate Village at Topeka. Mr. Wampler formerly had been a United Methodist minister in Americus and other Kansas towns. He moved to Americus in 1971. Francis "Reuel" Wampler, the son of Carl Edward and Gladys Taylor Wampler, was born Dec. 22, 1923 at Walnut, Kansas. He received a bachelor's degree from San Jose State University, a master of divinity degree from United Theological Seminary at Dayton, Ohio and a master of science degree from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg. He had attended Harvard University. Rev. Wampler was initially ordained in the Evangelical United Brethren Church which merged to become the United Methodist Church. He married Glenna Silva on Feb. 4, 1951, at Lowell, Mass. Mr. Wampler was a member of the United Methodist East Conference and the Emporia Ministerial Alliance. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club at Americus and the Boy Scouts. His is survived by his wife; their sons, Bryan Wampler of Manhattan, Bruce Wampler in Washington and David Wampler of Marietta, Ga.; one daughter, Betsy Montgomery of Washington, D.C. his mother, Gladys Wampler in Arizona; two brothers, Carl E. Wampler and Galen W. Wampler of San Jose, Calif.; a sister, Dorothy de la Torre in Arizona; and four grandchildren. A daughter Deborah Wampler, died in September 1988. His body was donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center. The Rev. Norton Ritter of the First United Methodist Church and Rev. Robert Ford of the Americus United Methodist Church will conduct the memorial service at 7 p.m. Friday in the C.D. Long Chapel in the Emporia church. Burial will be in Walnut Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Aldersgate Village may be sent to Carlson Funeral home. The name Reuel appears in the bible 14 times. The generally accepted definition of Reuel is: "friend of God."
