ZEILINGER 1875 – 1947 Funeral services were held at the Wayne Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Saturday for Rev. George John Zeilinger. Zeilinger's son-in-law, Rev. John Beckmann read the biography he had written before his death. Dr. H. W. Siefkes, Waterloo, president of the Iowa District of the American Lutheran Church spoke on behalf of the church. Casket bearers were Rev. H. A. Diers, Castle Grove: Rev. H. Gruening, Wyoming; H. L. Buesing, Anamosa: Rev. Mattheis, Ryan: Frank Larveldt, Clayton: Lester Wendt, Dubuque. A large number of pastors attended the last rite. Commitment was in the Pastors lot at Wayne Zion Cemetery. The service was read by Rev. John Beckmann, Albion, Nebr. Rev. George John Zeilinger, son; of Rev. and Mrs. John Leonard Zeilinger was born at Rock Creek, Mitchell County, Iowa on June 5,1875 and passed away at McDonald Hospital, Monticello, Iowa on Wednesday, December 24th, 1947 at the age of 72 years, six months, and 19 days. He had undergone an operation on Saturday, December 20th. He was confirmed by his father on March 25, 1888 at Jesup, Iowa. He attended Wartburg Academy and College from 1889-1893 and studied at Wartburg seminary from 1893-1895. He taught at Texas Lutheran College at Brenham, Texas until he took over a successful pastorate at Oelwein, Iowa. There he built a new church and new parsonage. On November 15, 1896 he was ordained in Texas. He was called in 1900 as professor of English at Wartburg Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa. He filled this important post for 27 years. He also served the congregation at Waupeton, Iowa and Clayton, Iowa during this time he wrote a number of books and theological articles on theology and also devotional literature. He was an accomplished musician and organist; and was a member of the American Guild of Organists, Rev. Zeilinger served the Lutheran Congregation at Wyoming for 7 1/2 years. Illness forced him into partial retirement but when ¬ ever he was called upon he served as preacher and organist. His home was in Monticello and was a member of the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church at Wayne. He observed his 50th ordination at the Wayne Zion Church on December 1, 1947, a memorable event in his long years of ministry. On June 13, 1948 he was to receive the degree of Doctor of Divinity at Wartburg Seminary in recognition of his labors. He was married September 25, 1897 to Elizabeth Lantsky, Dubuque with his father, Rev. John Zeilinger performing the ceremony. On September 29, 1947 they observed their 50th wedding anniversary both at Monticello and Albion, Nebr., at the home of his daughter. Rev. and Mrs. John Beckmann. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Zeilinger and three children. Mrs. John Beekman, Albion, Nebr., George Zeilinger of Dubuque and Mrs. William Louk, Decatur, Ill.; seven grandchildren: five brothers, Dr. Emil Zeilinger, Kansas City, Mo.; Rev. Asmus Zeilinger, Alma, Kan.; Rev. Alvin Zeilinger, Everly, Iowa; Rev. Otto Zeilinger, Belgrade, Nebr.; Ervin Zeilinger, Waterloo; three sisters, Mrs. Alfred Lampe, Waterloo; Mrs. Azel J. Jocumson, Waterloo and Mrs. Walter Henry, Moberly, Mo. His parents and one sister preceded him in death.
