The mother of the bride, Maria RADER, states the bride is a minor and gives consent, witnessed by George RADER and John Milton PERRY. The father of the groom, David THOMPSON, Elder, M.E. church, states groom is a minor and gives consent, witnessed by David and William P. THOMPSON and William H. PERRY. On the same day, 1 March 1849, William PERRY married Sarah A. THOMPSON, dau. of David and Mahala THOMPSON. The double marriage ceremony was performed by David THOMPSON, Elder. Marriage Book 3, page 360; Pension file #W.C.304,797. George W. and Mary Ellen (PERRY) THOMPSON had children: Elizabeth Margaret THOMPSON married 1st Ed E. STORRS, m. 2nd J. A. SMITH; Anna M. THOMPSON (1858-1895) m. William KING; Emma Alice THOMPSON (1861-1878); Reuben THOMPSON; and George THOMPSON. --- William LAYCOCK, John and Mary MURPHY, Solomon and Catherine SPARKS, Spencer and Elizabeth RECORD, Rebecca and John PILE, Mary BARNGROVER, Abraham THOMAS and Rachel (or Rebecca) BAILEY were charter members of the "Regular Baptist Church" (Later named Winchester Baptist Church) at Brush Creek, Adams County, Ohio. The first meeting at the church was held at the house of Spencer RECORDS, south of Fincastle, Ohio (Brown County) on 18 Sept. 1813. At this meeting Elder Chas. B. SMITH was called to the pastorate of the church; Brother RECORDS was chosen Deacon; and Brother LAYCOCK was chosen Clerk of the church. A list of ministers of this church after 1861 includes the names G. W. THOMPSON and A. RADER. THOMPSON enlisted 29 July 1861, at Pittsfield, Pike County, Illinois, in Company K., 2nd Regiment, Illinois Cavalry Volunteers for 3 years or the duration of the Civil War, and was mustered in as a private on 12 August 1861 at (Camp Butler) Springfield, Ill. He was discharged for disability at Paducah, Kentucky on 2 January 1862. --- On 19 October 1871, George W. THOMPSON, age 43, of Farmington, Van Buren County, Iowa, made declaration for the purpose of a pension on his Civil War injuries. He is described as five and one-half feet tall, light complexion, light hair, and blue eyes. He declares that since discharge from the service in January 1862, he has lived at Ashland?, Wapello County and Farmington, VanBuren County, Iowa. Pension #W.C.304,797. On 29 December 1879, George W. THOMPSON, aged 51 years, a resident of Gilman, Marshall Co., Iowa, again made declaration for an invalid pension on his Civil War service. He states that since leaving the service he has resided in the county of Pike, Illinois and in Van Buren and Marshall counties, Iowa, and that his occupation has been that of a laborer. Witnesses were R. H. ARCHERD and John H. SEAGER. Pension file #W.C.304,797. In 1879, E. E. STORRS, aged 34 years, and W. B. STRICKLAND, aged 36 years, both of Gilman, Marshall County, Iowa made an affidavit in support of the pension application of George W. THOMPSON. They state "that they have been intimately acquainted with the applicant for the past eleven years --- etc." Pension file #W.C.304,797. --- George W. THOMPSON, born 13 May 1828, died 22 April 1887, died of Typhoid Fever, aged 58 yrs., 11 mo., 9 days, at Gilman, Marshall Co., Iowa. He had been a resident of Iowa for 23 years prior to his death. He is buried in the north central section of the Gilman, Prairie View Cemetery together with his wife, Mary E. THOMPSON, b. 3 Jan 1832, d. 12 July 1912; and their dau. Emma Alice, b. 10 May 1861, d. 15 Feb. 1873. George W. THOMPSON was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.).
