Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus with the Rev. Kurt Hartrich, O. F.M., provincial minister of the Sacred Heart Province of St. Louis, officiating. Gratian "Lester" Nosal O.F.M., 62, of St. Louis, MO, formerly of Columbus, died Wednesday, June 10, 1992, in St. Louis, MO. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus with the Rev. Kurt Hartrich, O. F.M., provincial minister of the Sacred Heart Province of St. Louis, officiating. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday from3-8:30 pm, and Monday from 9 am until service time at the church. There is a 7 pm rosary Sunday at the church. The Rev. Nosal was born Dec. 5, 1929, in Columbus to Michael A. and Barbara (Korus) Nosal. He attended St. Anthony Elementary School and St. Bonaventure High School in Columbus. He finished high school and two years college at St. Joseph's Preparatory Seminary in Westmont, IL, he completed college at Our Lady of Angels Seminary in Cleveland. He was ordained deacon Dec. 8, 1955. He was ordained to the priesthood in Teutopolis June 29, 1956. The Rev Nosal returned to the major seminary for another year of post graduate work in theology. He started 19 years of missionary work in Brazil in 1957. He returned to the states in 1976 and was assigned to St. Paschal's Church in Monroe, LA. In 1979, he was assigned as pastor of Guardian Angels Parish in Chaska, MN. He then spent several years in the New Orleans area, where he was involved in street ministry. While there he was elected to the Sacred Heart Provincial Council. In 1990, he moved to St. Louis where he helped establish the Franciscan Connection, which is a listening house for the disadvantaged of the St. Louis area, where he also maintained his position as definitor on the provincial council. The Rev. Nosal is survived by his mother, Barbara of Columbus; five sisters, Dorothy Muhelka of Bennington, Joan Raemakers of Omaha, Barbara Kopecky of Omaha and Helen Niedbalski and Lenore Porkorny of Columbus; and six brothers, Ben of Banning,CA Richard of Columbus, Melvin of Fair Oaks, CA, Clarence of Kingwood, TX, Leonard of Bennington and Don of Omaha. He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother. Memorials are suggested to the Franciscan Fathers. Columbus Daily Telegram - June 11, 1992
