Description	:	The Rev. Harley G. "Buddy" Babb Jr., 83, went home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife, Ruby, on Nov. 23, 2007. Born March 1, 1924, the Rev. Babb was born and raised in Fountain Inn. A veteran of the European Theater in World War II, he was wounded multiple times and awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster for his service. "Buddy" Babb Jr., 83, went home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife, Ruby, on Nov. 23, 2007. Born March 1, 1924, the Rev. Babb was born and raised in Fountain Inn. A veteran of the European Theater in World War II, he was wounded multiple times and awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster for his service. After returning from the war, he was called later into the ministry and graduated from Furman University. He studied at Erskine Theological Seminary and had further training in pastoral counseling and chaplaincy at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. The Rev. Babb pastored Crestview Baptist (Fountain Inn), Poplar Springs Baptist (Moore), and Arcadia First Baptist (Spartanburg)churches. After leaving the pastorate, he was chief of counseling with the Greenville County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission until retirement. Even after retirement, he continued to serve as interim pastor at various churches. He was ordained into the ministry at Fountain Inn First Baptist, where he later continued to faithfully serve as a Sunday schoolteacher, president of the Senior Citizens club, and substitute pastor when called upon. The Rev. Babb was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ruby Runyan Babb. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Mr. and Mrs. Harley G. "Bud" Babb III of Moore and Mr. and Mrs. Joe R. Babb of Gray Court; and his grandchildren, Elizabeth Babb of Seneca, Carolyn Babb of Greenwood, David Babb of Moore, Julie and Andrew Smith of Tallahassee, Fla., Emily and Jonathan Montjoy of Woodruff, and Suzanne Babb of Gray Court; and one great-granddaughter, Haylee Babb of Moore. The Rev. Babb is also survived by four sisters, Nell Horton, Julia Babb, Frances Chesney, and Faye Pryor; and one brother, Holland Babb, all of Fountain Inn.
