Description	:	The Rev. Harry L. Smith, 85, of Grand Junction died Jan. 31. He was born on Nov. 29, 1897 to George and Minnie Kreps Smith in a log cabin near McConnell, Ill. and moved to Greene, Iowa with his parents in 1913. A graduate of Mount Morris College and Bethany Biblical Seminary in Illinois, The Rev. Smith served congregations in Hope, Ark., St. Joseph, Mo., and at the Panther Creek Church of the Brethren near Adel before moving to Beaver in 1927. A medical condition forced him to retire from full-time religious work in 1927 and he began working at an oats factory... Read More	The Rev. Harry L. Smith, 85, of Grand Junction died Jan. 31. He was born on Nov. 29, 1897 to George and Minnie Kreps Smith in a log cabin near McConnell, Ill. and moved to Greene, Iowa with his parents in 1913. A graduate of Mount Morris College and Bethany Biblical Seminary in Illinois, The Rev. Smith served congregations in Hope, Ark., St. Joseph, Mo., and at the Panther Creek Church of the Brethren near Adel before moving to Beaver in 1927. A medical condition forced him to retire from full-time religious work in 1927 and he began working at an oats factory in Beaver, retiring in 1962. The Rev. Smith married Clara Alice Walker in June, 1924 and after she died in 1974, married Erma Seifirt Bruhl in October, 1975. He also served as mayor of Beaver from 1937 to 1976. The Rev. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother. Survivors include his wife; two sisters, Benice Frazier of Charles City and Thelma Osborne of Yuma, Ariz.; two brothers Clifford of Marble Rock and Galen of Greene; four children, Delbert of Newton, Kan., Harold of Adel Etha Mae Brust of Fargo, N.D. and Mary Alice Landhuis of Columbia, Mo.; three step-children; 13 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and 14 step-great grandchildren.
